Logistics

On behalf of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Synergy Enterprises, Inc. (SEI) is pleased to provide you with information for the Can Physical Activity and Exercise Prevent Drug Abuse? Promoting a Full Range of Science to Inform Prevention meeting. The meeting is scheduled to take place on June 5-6, 2008 at Wilson Hall, Building 1, on the NIH campus.

On Thursday, June 5, the meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. Registration will open at 9:00 a.m. On Friday, June 6, the meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m.

NIH Security and Identification

Security screening is required for access to the NIH campus. Please have valid photo identification available to show security personnel and tell them that you are attending a meeting at Wilson Hall, Building 1. Please allow up to one-half hour for processing through the security check points.

Public buses are no longer allowed to circulate on campus. Visitors arriving by bus will be dropped off at the NIH/Medical Center Metro stop at Rockville Pike and South Drive. Patients and visitors on official business can then ride the Campus Shuttle to the Clinical Center and other designated shuttle stops on the campus.

Building Security

Due to the checking of IDs at the perimeter, employees and visitors will not be required to show their ID again to gain access to the majority of buildings on the NIH Bethesda campus during the normal business day.

Employees and visitors should continue to wear their identification prominently at all times while on campus.

Guards will remain at certain buildings to address specific program requirements such as sensitive research and safety concerns. At building entrances where guards are posted:

Vehicle Inspections

All visitor vehicles, including taxicabs, will be inspected before being allowed on campus. Visitors will be asked to show (1) form of identification (a government-issued photo ID—driver’s license, passport, green card, etc.) and to state the purpose of their visit. Drivers will be required to present their driver’s license and may be asked to open their trunk and hood. If you are physically unable to perform this function, please inform the inspector, and they will assist you. If you arrive by taxi, the driver will deliver you to the entrance of Wilson Hall, Building 1. All shuttle buses from off-campus facilities will undergo inspection at the campus perimeter, but will be allowed to enter and circulate on campus once inspected.

Parking

Please note: visitor parking is limited at NIH. Visitors are encouraged to use public transportation such as the Metrorail subway system which has a convenient stop (Medical Center) on the NIH campus. Visit the "Metro" site for information on fares and schedules http://www.wmata.com/. There is limited public parking in the lot adjacent to Wilson Hall, Building 1. The daily parking lot cost is $12.
