Welcome

On behalf of the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Innovation and Improvement, Synergy Enterprises, Inc., would like to welcome you.

The Technology in Education Summit will be held in the Riggs Center at the campus of the University of Maryland, College Park on Wednesday, August 6 from 9:00-4:30 p.m.

This event is being conducted in partnership with the University of Maryland, College Park; Maryland MESA; and Johns Hopkins University, Center for Technology in Education.

Teachers and school leaders are invited to gain direct experience using some new instructional technologies that teach mathematics or reading. The highlight of the meeting will be hands-on training demonstrations by all of the current grantees funded by the Star Schools program. Please click here to view descriptions of each project pairing.

The purposes of the meeting are:

  • To introduce teachers and school leaders to cutting edge instructional technology products, especially those that use gaming technologies and/or run on mobile devices;
  • To provide hands-on training to teachers and other school leaders on how they may use these products in the classroom;
  • To stimulate discussions about technology integration issues, and to inform future school/district planning efforts; and
  • To examine some specific products aimed at improving student achievement in math, science, or reading.

The opening address will be provided by Dr. Joe A. Hairston, Superintendent of the Baltimore County Public Schools.

Participating teachers should have teaching responsibilities and interests that match one of the following:

  • Middle school mathematics, especially algebra or pre-algebra, including SES instruction
  • Middle school math or science taught in an interdisciplinary context
  • 4th grade reading or English instruction, especially as taught in after school/SES programs

If you represent one of these three areas, please use this website to learn more about the meeting location and the meeting agenda. We’re excited that you will be coming, and we look forward to seeing you.
