Meeting Information
The K-12 Technology in Education Summit is being held at the Samuel Riggs Alumni Center in College Park, Maryland. This is a free conference requiring pre-registration for access to the training sessions and information demonstrations.
Training sessions will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2008. The Opening session will be held in the Crist Ballroom beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Conference Focus: What happens when emerging technologies are used in the schools? How can the new kinds of learning promised by innovative technologies be integrated into the practical realities of a school curriculum?
Purposes
- To disseminate Star Schools and other TEP-produced projects to teachers·
- To provide a professional development opportunity for teachers on instructional technology·
- To provide feedback to Star Schools/TEP grantees on what they need to do to promote effective use of their products.
Breakout /Hands-On Training Sessions:
These sessions will feature hands-on introductions for teachers to the products produced under the U.S. Department of Education’s Star Schools grants.
Based on their content expertise and teaching interests, participating teachers will be assigned to one of the following three project pairs.
- Educate Online -- Matrix/Maryland Public Television (both middle school math)
- University of Oklahoma/University of Wisconsin (math/interdisciplinary math and science)
- Ohio Board of Regents/Pacific Resources for Education and Learning (PREL) (both SES, math and reading/English)
Follow Up
Future MESA meetings will create opportunities for teachers to reflect upon what they have seen at this meeting, and to make specific plans for using these or similar technologies in the classroom.

FROM BALTIMORE AND POINTS NORTH:
Take I-95 South to the Capital Beltway, exit 27, and immediately follow signs to exit 25B—College Park/U.S. Route 1 South. After proceeding on Route 1 approximately two miles, take a right-hand exit onto Route 193 West. Go two traffic lights to Stadium Drive. Make a left onto Stadium Drive. FROM BALTIMORE/WASHINGTON INTERNATIONAL/THURGOOD MARSHALL AIRPORT:
Take 195 West to I-95 South. Take I-95 South to the Capital Beltway, exit 27, and immediately follow signs to exit 25B—College Park/U.S. Route 1 South. After proceeding on Route 1 approximately two miles, take a right-hand exit onto Route 193 West. Go two traffic lights to Stadium Drive. Make a left onto Stadium Drive. FROM REAGAN NATIONAL AIRPORT:
Take I-395 North until it terminates at New York Ave. Make a right onto New York Ave., and exit at Maryland Route 295 North (Baltimore/Washington Parkway). Exit at Maryland Route 193 West (Greenbelt Road) and follow straight for three miles to Stadium Drive. Make a left onto Stadium Drive. Continue on Stadium Drive, bearing right at the traffic circle. The Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center is on the left just beyond Byrd Stadium.
FROM WASHINGTON/RICHMOND AND POINTS SOUTH:
Take I-95 North to exit 23 (MD 201-Kenilworth Ave.) from the Capital Beltway south to MD 193 and turn right (westbound). Cross under U.S. Route 1 and turn left at light onto Stadium Drive. Continue on Stadium Drive, bearing right at the traffic circle. The Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center is on the left just beyond Byrd Stadium.
FROM DULLES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AND POINTS WEST:
Take the Dulles Toll Road to I-495 North. Take I-495 North (Washington Beltway) for approximately 25 minutes to exit 25B.Take I-95 South to the Capital Beltway, exit 27, and immediately follow signs to exit 25B—College Park/U.S. Route 1 South. After proceeding on Route 1 approximately two miles, take a right-hand exit onto Route 193 West. Go two traffic lights to Stadium Drive. Make a left onto Stadium Drive. Continue on Stadium Drive, bearing right at the traffic circle. The Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center is on the left just beyond Byrd Stadium.

Paid parking for this meeting is available at the Stadium Drive Parking garage, located next to the Riggs Alumni Center.
