Addressing School Safety and Improving Education Outcomes

- Provide Web-based training, technical assistance resources, and communications support to the Department of Education's Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools (REMS) Technical Assistance Center in the areas of risk mitigation, threat assessment, and compassion fatigue. The site is designed to serve school administrators, security personnel, superintendents, and teachers from K through 12. Following the December crisis in Connecticut, the site received more than 5300 new visitors, nearly 6000 visits, and nearly 9400 page views.
- Design practical and informative tools for improving the outcomes from English-learning programs based on promising practices and common challenges identified during site visits in support of the U.S. Department of Education's Language Instruction Educational Programs for education practitioners.
- Assess the quality of care in 21st Century Community Learning Centers programs that serve pre-K and kindergarten students and determine best practices.
