Curriculum and Tool/Application Development

Man with technology seemingly flowing from his hands Web-based applications and tools provide greater access to information. These applications foster collaboration among policymakers, practitioners, and parents. With greater access and a collaborative environment, all stakeholders play a larger role in advancing educational outcomes. As technology takes on a larger role in communicating policies and plans, it is also becoming even more integrated into the classroom. Beyond providing teaching tools, classroom technology can collect and report educational statistics. In that situation, SEI clients rely on our IT specialists using the latest methods to protect privacy, maintain security, and ensure equal access to education data. SEI's advanced IT security systems and custom Web applications and software collect and deliver data based on our clients' needs.

  • Interactive "wiki" knowledge base: The U.S. Department of Education selected SEI to replace an existing Web portal with a more user-friendly platform for storing and disseminating information for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Human Resources Development Working Group. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan highlighted the importance of the Wiki Knowledge Bank developed through this project. Secretary Duncan noted that the Wiki "is a great example of the use of collaborative online technologies to share information about education across borders."
  • Interactive data collection and reporting: SEI developed interactive Web portals for the U.S. Department of Education's Magnet Schools Assistance Program Technical Assistance Center and the U.S. Department of Defense Education Activity. The tools are designed to help researchers collect, evaluate, and report data on yearly progress, annual performance, and key performance indicators. The tools developed make data entry and reporting less burdensome, enabling users to report and submit qualitative and quantitative data related to specific performance indicators and Government Performance and Results Act measures, resulting in a more efficient and user-friendly reporting process.
  • Accessible e-learning courses: SEI designed and developed the You for Youth Professional Development Web portal, a 508-compliant interactive Web site that contains easy-to-use e-learning courses, supportive coaching modules, targeted resources, and multimedia tools designed to facilitate interaction and networking among 21st Century Community Learning Centers professionals. Writers, researchers, designers, and IT experts are building a similar portal to support the Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools Technical Assistance Center, which offers workshops and webinars on topics such as how to handle threat assessment, infectious diseases, and lockdown/evacuation procedures.
