THEME AND OBJECTIVES The goal of this meeting is to promote an interactive learning and information exchange process between and among the Teaching American History (TAH) grantees and the U.S. Department of Education. To achieve this goal, we have developed the theme of Enhancing Project Quality. Within this overall theme, we have developed three conference objectives. These are:
HISTORY CONTENT AND TEACHING FOR PROJECT IMPROVEMENT
Presenters will provide sessions that help attendees better understand the focus and intent of the TAH program: improving American history content for teachers and students. Presentations cover either a historical content subject or a pedagogical element of applying history in the classroom. In either event, presentations will incorporate practical tools for how the presenter’s message and information can be used to improve ongoing professional development within TAH projects. Session participants will gain the necessary information to structure training programs and deliver new resources that are aligned with history standards and allow teachers to be creative in the classroom.
EVALUATION FOR PROJECT ACCOUNTABILITY AND RESULTS
Evaluations make an important contribution to the overall TAH program and individual projects. These sessions will provide specific and practical information on how to improve grantees’ individual evaluation plans to include data collection and reporting. Presentations will illustrate evaluation plans that guide grantees through the evaluation process. These sessions will focus on plan development, potential obstacles, and problem solving, and will illustrate effective means of achieving desired results. Sessions may focus on developing effective measures and reporting for one program GPRA or project measure, or more broadly on overall evaluation strategies for the TAH program or a project.
EFFECTIVE REPORTING AND COMMUNICATION
Receiving quality annual performance reports (APRs) is critical for Federal staff to understand the facilitators and inhibitors to individual project and more broadly, program success. The APRs are used to identify technical assistance needs as well as promising practices. The intent of this objective is to provide technical assistance through multiple in-depth sessions on expectations for completing specific sections of the APR, as well as information on the program's GPRA measures and the Data Verification process. Also, the sessions will provide strategies on how to enhance communication with your project officer. Time will be provided for grantees to meet with their project officer. |
